"Fire & Ice; Combat Art from the Korean War" June 25th - Newport R.I.

The Naval War College Museum recently opened a new Korean War Exhibit, “Fire and Ice: Combat Art from the Korean War,” featuring 27 pieces by combat artists Herbert Hahn and Hugh Cabot.

Often called the “forgotten war,” the Korean War started on June 25, 1950 and ran until July 27, 1953. In all, five million soldiers and civilians died, including over 36,000 Americans. Pictured is “Poison Charley” by Hugh Cabot. While Korean winters took their toll on frontline troops, summers brought their own misery in the form of monsoon rains that could continue for weeks at a time. Outside of the cities there were few paved roads, and the dirt roads that did exist quickly turned to mud once the monsoons began.

The exhibit will be on display through December 2014. For more information, call 401-841-7276.
